In 1980, I took up my first teaching position at Murrupurtiyawanuwu School, Wurrumiyanga, on the Tiwi Islands. I was a transition teacher working with Tiwi teachers in a Bilingual, Bicultural program.
My two years living in a Tiwi community was enriching and formative. During that time I became aware of deafness and its impacts on learning. I went on to become a teacher of the deaf for the remainder of my career.
In recent years I have returned to Darwin and joined the Volunteer team at Education Mob.
