Background

The Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place has its origins in a collaboration  between the Northern Territory Department of Education & Training, Batchelor Institute and Library & Archives  NT to celebrate the 60th Anniversary in 2013 of the appointment of the first five Assistant Teachers to work in remote communities in the Northern Territory.

The Digital Keeping Place was hosted by Library & Archives NT until 2021 when responsibility transferred to the Northern Territory Education Mob.

Created by a group of current and former educators (our Volunteers) the Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place recognises and celebrates the important role Aboriginal and other educators play as role models and leaders in their own and in the wider education of the Northern Territory community. For the children in their community, the Aboriginal Educators are the constant and familiar faces.

The Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place brings together multiple resources, some with competing and conflicting perspectives. As such, it is a living archive and belongs to all those involved in the education of Aboriginal Territorians.

From small things big things grow - the Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place has grown to a large significant collection of photographs, documents, movies and sound recordings thanks to the support of our wonderful volunteers, generosity of former educators to trust us with their collections, collaborators and partners.
