The Northern Territory Education Mob acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the unceded nations throughout the Northern Territory and beyond. About Us

We work to gather and strengthen knowledge about the efforts of educators, education spaces and curricula and locate it the one Digital Keeping Place, accessible to all. The content of the Digital Keeping place shares the richness and diversity of Aboriginal Education in the NT, community by community, program by program. It is a rich resource for classroom learning and teacher study.

We work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations, services, communities, schools and educators (past and present) respectful of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property protocols. We collaborate with individuals, school communities, organisations, and keeping institutions.  We work to build trust with our partners and collaborators.

What we do

Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place

A group of current and former educators have created the Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place. Its primary purpose is to recognise and celebrate the important role Aboriginal and other educators play as role models and leaders in their own and in the wider education of the Northern Territory community. For the children in their community, the Aboriginal Educators are the constant and familiar faces.

Many past and present educators and organisations have generously donated their time and resources to build this keeping place. The Northern Territory Education Mob Digital Keeping Place brings together multiple resources, some with competing and conflicting perspectives. As such, it is a living archive and belongs to all those involved in the education of Aboriginal Territorians.

Resources for Educators and Learners

The photos, movies, sounds, documents and objects in the archive tell stories of the amazing contribution of Aboriginal educators and those who worked alongside them. It lives in the present and looks towards the future. Knowing and understanding this part of our Northern Territory history, through the eyes, voices and hands of those who made it is a solid foundation upon which to build a stronger future.

It is a rich resource for classroom learning and teacher study, and developing new classroom materials.

Digitisation & Preservation

Most of the material in our Digital Keeping Place is donated as physical documents, photographs and other media.  Our wonderful team of volunteers process and digitise the material for adding to the Digital Keeping Place.

We digitise and use the records and information revealed through our efforts to recognise and preserve community, cultural, linguistic and education related knowledge and make them accessible in a respectful way. Working with others, we facilitate learning, development, preservation and celebration.

Copies of the material are distributed to the relevant communities represented in the photos (digital repatriation).
